Why are we doing this?

The 1st Annual Aidan Teague/Mac Kids Charity Softball Classic took place in June 2006. The tournament was built from the wishes of Neil and Melanie Teague wanting to give back to McMaster Children’s Hospital, the hospital who cared for their infant son, Aidan, in the first weeks of his life.

Aidan was born at Oakville Trafalgar General Hospital on Monday, February 6, 2006 at 2:11 am.  Among other serious concerns at birth, Aidan had developed fluid on his lungs. By noon that same day things began to get worse.  He suffered a series of unexplained seizures and stopped breathing.  Aidan had to be intubated and then transferred to McMaster Children’s Hospital. At 2 pm, 12 hours after his birth, Aidan was rushed to McMaster Children’s Hospital in nearby Hamilton.  Aidan spent the next 8 days in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit of “Mac”. For the next 8 days of his life Aidan was known as “A4”.

At Mac, Aidan received the care and treatment to allow him recovery to the point that on Tuesday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, Aidan finally came home. On Valentine’s Day 2006 A4 became another one of Mac’s everyday miracles.

With the time Aidan spent at Mac, Aidan’s parents saw some of the challenges and hurdles that Mac and it’s staff overcome on a daily basis while treating the most precious and vulnerable of our community; our children. This tournament was borne of our commitment to do our part to help the hospital that helped our family and our community; McMaster Children’s Hospital.

Please join us in making a difference in the lives of our children. Please join us for a weekend of fun, exercise and giving at the Aidan Teague Charity Softball Classic.

   Thank you for your support,

Neil, Melanie, Aaron, Sydney and Aidan Teague

P.S. Today Aidan is a happy, healthy 5 year old and for that we are eternally grateful to Dr. Bosco Paes and the staff of the NICU at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
